H.E. Ambassador Luamanuvae Albert Mariner led Samoa’s delegation to the Third China and Pacific Islands Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting that was held in Xiamen from 28-29 May 2025. The meeting was chaired by the Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, His Excellency Wang Yi. The President of Kiribati, H.E. Taneti Maamau, co-chaired the meeting. The Premier and Foreign Minister of Niue, Dalton Talagi, the Crown Prince and Minister of Foreign Affairs from Tonga , HRH Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, and Foreign Ministers from Micronesia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, and Vice Foreign Ministers from Nauru and Fiji, and the Deputy Secretary-General from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat attended the meeting. Ambassador Mariner during his remarks at the meeting highlighted strength of Samoa and China’s bilateral relationship and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations that would be celebrated later this year. A Joint Statement was issued at the conclusion of the meeting highlighting consensus on key issues of mutual interest between China and the Pacific Island Countries.
