The meeting was also attended by the Trade Commissioner, Mona Mato and Export Manager, Ms. Yolanda Jiang, of the Pacific Trade and Invest (PTI) Office in Beijing. Ambassador Mariner in his remarks acknowledged the important role played by the private sector in Samoa’s economic development and provided a brief overview of China- Samoa bilateral relations, and the Embassy's active role in promoting Samoa's private sector and encouraging trade and investment in Samoa. The work of the Embassy in marketing Samoa’s locally made products at the annual China International Import Export (CIIE) in Shanghai, working in close collaboration with SAME and SROS was also highlighted. The annual CIIE event, organised by the Chinese Government, is one of the largest trade fairs in the country with emphasis on imports into China. Trade Commissioner Mato and Ms. Jiang shared their insights with the group on the trade and investment landscape in China and the importance of ensuring the correct marketing strategies in assisting and ensuring products from the Pacific countries enter the Chinese market.
