Pacific Unity and Culture Showcased at the 2026 Pacific Day Celebration in Beijing

The Embassy of Samoa joined the other diplomatic missions from Pacific Islands Forum member countries with diplomatic presence in Beijing, in celebrating Pacific Day on Saturday, 23 May 2026, at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing.

This was the first Pacific Day event, organized by all the Pacific Embassies, which highlighted the Moana Pasifika's rich culture, diversity and shared identity, and some of the regions manufactured products. The event demonstrated Pacific unity through collaboration among participating Forum countries which included Australia, Fiji, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, PNG, Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Samoa proudly showcased its rich culture through the performances by 22 Samoan scholarship students studying in Beijing and Wuhan. Joining in the celebrations were Government officials from the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure (MWTI), Samoa Water Authority (SWA) and Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MSR) who were in Beijing attending bilateral technical cooperation programs, alongside members of the Samoan community in Beijing.

Senior officials and representatives from several Chinese government Ministries and Departments, Universities and private sector enterprises, also attended the event.

Cultural booths displaying Pacific artifacts, products and services, together with traditional foods and performances, highlighted the diversity and vibrancy of the Pacific Blue Continent region. The event also displayed Pacific unity and promoted greater cultural understanding between Pacific countries and China.
