PIAG HOSTS FAREWELL DINNER FOR AMBASSADOR OF TONGA / Samoa Embassy Beijing / By Gabrielle The Pacific Islands Ambassadors Group (PIAG) in Beijing hosted a farewell dinner in honour of H.E. Mr. Tau'aika Uta'atu, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Tonga, and Dean of PIAG, who completed his diplomatic service in China on 31 August 2026, after serving in Beijing from 2015 to 2026. The gathering brought together Pacific Ambassadors and distinguished guests, including the China’s Special Envoy to the Pacific Islands, H.E. Qian Bo, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in China and Ambassador of Cameroon, H.E. Martin Mpana, Ambassador of Cameroon, the Ambassador of Australia, H.E. Scott Dewar. As the outgoing Dean of the Pacific Islands Diplomatic Corps in China, Ambassador Uta'atu has played an important role in strengthening Pacific solidarity and cooperation among Pacific missions in Beijing. The evening featured heartfelt reflections and testimonies from fellow Pacific Ambassadors, cultural entertainment. Samoa’s Ambassador Luamanuvae Albert Mariner presented some Samoan cultural gifts including a Toa Samoa shirt and honoured Ambassador Uta'atu with a traditional taualuga.
